Henna is not a beauty trend, Dadabhoy continued, but a creative art form this is certainly profoundly rooted ever. It’s an atmosphere which was echoed recently, through the hashtag campaign #ReclaimTheBindi, whereby South Asian females talked out against what they think may be the appropriation of these culture by anglo women who wear bindis for decoration.
The conversation has seeped into Beyoncé’s Instagram supply recently, with naysayers accusing her of using henna incorrectly — even researching it to when “white women having dreadlocks.” Together critic noted, “Just trigger one thing is beautiful doesn’t indicate u have a right to work with it. Especially when u put it to use as a ‘decoration’ or ‘body art, ’ the meaning behind its considerable and just used on unique occasions. Not knowing that and using it simply to decorate your self cause u believe it is good, IS social appropriation.” And, stated another, “Mmm damn Beyonce, you can’t just be professional black. Learn about cultural appropriation, babe.”
But one supporter had a unique simply take: “Experiencing and adopting different cultures chips away at racism little-by-little. We as people should be obligated to get acquainted with more about other’s countries and traditions. Divisions should end!”
